In 2018, as part of our early beta tests with eBay, DSD Publicity's longstanding client—and breast cancer survivor—Vanessa Bell Calloway was teamed with a national nonprofit, Susan G. Komen , and the major online retailer to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her iconic role in the landmark film Coming To America.
BETA TEST GOAL: Prove that celebrity and culture alone, when managed properly, have transferable value and the ability to drive commerce and ecomm.
OBJECTIVES ACHIEVED: Teamed with eBay and Susan G. Komen to host an online auction. Established value of celebrity and cultural by engaging Vanessa Bell Calloway, leveraging her celebrity and the cultural moment of the 30th anniversary of Coming To America.
MEDIA ACHIEVED: The New York Daily News ran a series commemorating the anniversary of Coming To America movie based on our initial pitch. “The Summer of Coming To America” featured interviews with Frankie Faison and Debra Landis, with Calloway launching the series.
